The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Postgraduate Secretary to join us on a full-time basis. Funds are available for three years in the first instance.

The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics is a world-leading centre for teaching and research in language and linguistics comprising of six Sections: French, German, Italian, Slavonic, Spanish & Portuguese, and Theoretical & Applied Linguistics. Cambridge Film and Screen Studies is also housed administratively in MMLL. With nearly 1,000 students (over 770 undergraduates, 100 MPhil students and 180 PhD students), the Faculty is home to around 140 academic, research and professional services staff based on the University’s Sidgwick Site, a short walk from the Centre of Cambridge.

Joining a small, friendly team, the successful applicant will provide general administrative support for the Postgraduate Office, assisting the Postgraduate Administrator. This support includes, but is not limited to, dealing with postgraduate admissions (MPhil and PhD), thesis submission and examination, MPhil programme administration. The appointed person will have the opportunity to liaise directly with students, dealing with their queries, and jointly dealing with the Postgraduate Office email inbox. Having a friendly approach will help with dealing with staff (academic and professional services) at all levels, assisting with postgraduate communications in the Faculty, including the postgraduate web pages. This is a predominantly office-based role, however, home working for up to 40% of the role would be considered after a period of training has been completed.

Educated to A level standard or with equivalent experience, and with prior experience in an administrative support role (preferably in a relevant role in a higher education environment), the role holder will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, good IT skills including a working knowledge MS Office; some experience of working with databases would be useful. The role holder will be highly organised with meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in recording data and checking detailed written correspondence.
