Job overview

Whilst keeping close links to TfL’s Sustainability & Corporate Environment team, you could potentially work in any department within the organisation. You will be working to ensure that Sustainability is at the heart of every decision they make.

What will I be doing?

As a graduate, your two-year development programme will be made up of four different placements within TfL. The aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. You’ll gain experience across different roles and in a variety of different departments. Each Sustainability Graduate’s journey will be unique. Their five 2023 Sustainability Graduates are currently on 6-month placements in

  • Responsible Procurement (example activities: reducing supply chain emissions and prioritising the circular economy)

  • Highways Assets (example activities: roll-out of wildflower verges)
  • Transport Strategy & Policy (example activities: ULEZ)
  • Projects, Consents & Urban Design (example activities: Environmental Impact Assessment),

As part of gaining understanding of TfL’s core work, the scheme includes up to a week of shifts working with Customer Service Assistants in a centrally located London Underground station. Your first placement will be assigned. Thereafter, there is some flexibility to tailor placements for your personal career development.
