Telent have a brand-new Trainee opportunity within the Traffic Installations team in Leeds / Micklefield. We are looking for a Trainee Traffic Installation Technician – someone who will join our team on a new venture to install Traffic Signals Units across the West Yorkshire region. This is an opportunity to be a part of our mission-critical aim to keep the UK safe. This is a field-based role which will see you cover various locations across Leeds and the West Yorkshire region.

This role will see the successful Trainee Traffic Installation Technician install traffic signals units and traffic lighting systems, including the installation of ancillary and associated equipment and highways systems.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician – What you’ll do:

  • Ensure test equipment, PPE and Vehicle are all compliant with up-to-date certification as required
  • Be aware of safety at work and be alert in identifying potential hazards by removing or minimizing them wherever possible by following all Health and Safety Procedures
  • Actively seeks development to progress within the programme beyond the role of Trainee
  • Supports Traffic Installations team to achieve KPIs and service delivery requirements
  • Follow site specifications for quality and accuracy
  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines
  • Basic levels of understanding for analytical or scientific method or operational process
  • Be aware of safety at work and be alert in identifying potential hazards by removing or minimizing them wherever possible by following all Health and Safety Procedures
  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines
  • Works with close supervision and will follow direction and support provided
  • Carry out installation of Traffic signals units and associated signalling equipment
  • Assist with carry out testing of Traffic signals equipment
  • Install cables, wiring and joints
  • Install wire cables at top caps and controllers to a agreed specifications
  • Carry out on-site risk assessments and follow method statements
  • Ownership of personal development to progress within the programme beyond the role of a Trainee Traffic Installation Technician
  • Attend Team briefing sessions / Toolbox talks as required

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician – Who you are:

The ideal Trainee Traffic Installer will naturally have an interest in being in a hands-on “trades” role. This role requires you to travel across the West Yorkshire region, and work in all-weathers / outdoors, so you must be comfortable with this. We are also providing the Trainee with an opportunity to complete two key courses – NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, and the NHSS / HERS Sector 8 training, so the ideal Trainee will truly invest themselves in developing themselves. And lastly, the ideal Trainee will come from a trades background – plumbing, boiler repairs, constriction, labouring, cable pulling, drain blockages, electrical roles etc. although we are not looking for specific technical experience.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician – Key requirements:

  • Advantageous to have basic electrical knowledge or equivalent experience in an electrical engineering role (desirable but not essential)
  • Has basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process
  • Able to work against / to a defined specification and instructions
  • Possesses good work ethic, the drive to develop skills and knowledge, and the willingness to progress
  • General IT skills
  • Works well within a team and can work well as an individual
