Specialist Clinical Psychologist | East London NHS Foundation Trust

Type: Trainee
Location: London, E9 6SR

Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to provide psychological expertise across specialist acute inpatient ward and community early intervention in psychosis settings in City and Hackney offering continuity of care for residents following a first episode of psychosis. This is a split post where part of the time (0.5 WTE) will be based on Ruth Seifert Ward at the City and Hackney Centre for Mental Health, which is a 14 bedded male acute admission ward, and the other (0.4 WTE) of the post will be based in the community Early Intervention in Psychosis Team, EQUIP.

The post holder would be responsible for providing psychological expertise to Ruth Seifert ward and EQIUP through assessments, individual and team formulations, individual and group therapy, work with families, staff consultation, reflective practice, supervision and teaching. The inpatient unit and EQUIP are committed to trauma-informed care and the psychology teams make an important contribution to this. The post holder would also contribute to developing psychologically-informed discharge planning as this has been identified as a factor in the service user’s recovery after discharge and offer continuity of care into the community under EQUIP. As a part of our commitment to ensuring that our workforce is reflective of those who use our services, we would particularly encourage applications from those who identify as being part of a minoritised group.

To be jointly responsible for the operational delivery of the specialist early intervention inpatient and community service provision to the residents of City and Hackney
To provide a Clinical/Counselling psychology service to EQUIP patients providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy
To offer advice, supervision, training and consultation on patients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other workers and work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
To supervise, support, and co-ordinate the psychological work provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the service who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
To promote and facilitate psychological capability within the inpatient (Ruth Seifert Ward) and EQUIP team (e.g. via consultation, staff support and reflection, training and leadership).
To forge effective links and working relationships with colleagues across the inpatient-EI pathway in order to understand the psychological needs within these settings and across this interface.
To provide specific psychological expertise and input around complex case presentations.
To engage in regular clinical and operational supervision with the lead psychologist
To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the team.

There are a broad range of leadership opportunities for the post holder to be involved in, including quality improvement projects, staff development initiatives, and supervision. The post holder will be part of a vibrant Inpatient Psychology Team and the EQUIP psychology team, consisting of qualified psychologists, trainee psychologists and assistant psychologists.

The post holder will also join a wider support network from City and Hackney Psychology service, which is dynamic and creative with practitioners having expertise in a range of therapeutic models. We encourage and support CPD, and have a number of opportunities for specialist group supervision in various approaches including EMDR therapy, complex trauma, narrative therapy and reflective practice.

The diverse population of service users accessing acute and community services in City and Hackney provides opportunities for creativity and innovation in service development and delivery, and the psychology service aims to provide a high quality, equitable and culturally competent service to people with highly complex needs.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people’s lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
