What you will do in your working day

Your first year will be spent in our in-house training school learning basic machine and hand fitting skills as well as Inspection techniques and CNC machining.

You will then progress onto the works to complete your apprenticeship in the relevant department reporting to the area supervisor.

Tasks include:

  • Basic Programming skills.
  • Setting up a machine for small batch work.
  • Running machines to complete work efficiently.
  • Problem solving.
  • Part inspection

You will complete your College Course units on a day release basis.

The training you will be getting

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be

expected to work towards the Machining Technician L3, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group. Delivery method and location to be confirmed.

  • EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
  • Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Machining) (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • City and Guilds Machining technician (1273)

As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English

Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional

certificates of recognition for these qualifications.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Our apprentices progress onto all areas of the company and will have the opportunity to undertake a HNC upon successful completion of their level 3 qualifications with merit and distinction grades.
