Senior LED in Cardiothoracic Surgery | Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
Type: Trainee
Location: Manchester, M23 9LT
Description:
Manchester NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Senior Locally Employed Doctor in CT Surgery.
The post is based at Wythenshawe Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary, which provides a wide range of inpatient and acute services, with approximately 1000 beds. The
large tertiary cardiothoracic unit includes the specialties of cardiology, cardiac and thoracic surgery, heart & lung transplantation, as well as
offering VAD and ECMO services.
The cardiac and thoracic surgery specialties offer a wide range of adult cardiac surgery, and sole provision of thoracic surgery in Greater
Manchester. There are currently 47 cardiothoracic surgery beds, and 16 transplant beds, along with 31 dedicated cardio-thoracic critical care
beds.
Outpatients are based in the dedicated clinic suite of the North West Heart Centre. The post holder would also be expected to support an
established satellite clinic at one of our local hospitals.
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other
applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is
available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join our
cardiothoracic surgery department as part of the Registrar team. This team consists of 14
registrars, who are a combination of Higher Clinical Fellows (HCFs), Associate Specialists and
Higher Surgical Trainees (HSTs). The number of HSTs in the department at any time ranges from
two to five. All colleagues working on this rota will be allocated to a named consultant surgeon
and will undertake their core activities with that named consultant. Consultant & registrar
pairings will be rotated on a 6-monthly basis. HCFs are afforded the same training opportunities
as HSTs. The successful candidate can expect to attend operating theatres and outpatient clinics
on a regular basis, with the opportunity to gain experience across the spectrum of cardiothoracic
surgery including mechanical circulatory support and cardiopulmonary transplantation
