Applicants will need to be educated to Masters level and preferably a Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to lead and support individual and team working. The successful candidate will need to have an excellent knowledge of histology laboratory processes and will be required to supervise processes undertake in the main laboratory, which include but not limited to, specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, send-out, special staining as well as overseeing some aspects of digital pathology. The successful candidate will need to undertake aspects of diagnostic laboratory work and support the operational management team to take forward key service and workforce objectives.

The successful candidate will be leading a team and will require to resolve real-time laboratory issues as they arise, provide training and guidance to members of the team in a face-to-face capacity.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
The main responsibilities include:
• To be a lead Senior Biomedical Scientist and rotationally manage, along with the other Senior Biomedical Scientists, throughput and processing of pathology specimens for Histology, Neuropathology and Immunochemistry, for screening, diagnostic and monitoring purposes and ensure provision of accurate, timely and appropriate analytical data.

• To manage all Biomedical Scientists, qualified, trainee and support staff deployed primarily within the main laboratory within Histology including special staining, as well as Neuropathology, Immunochemistry and other laboratory areas as required for service delivery.

• Specific areas of responsibility include specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, send-out, special staining as well as overseeing some
aspects of digital pathology.

• To liaise with other healthcare professionals to maximise the effectiveness of the service.

• The post-holder will also support the Cellular Pathology Training, Quality and Health and Safety Leads.

This post carries responsibility for supporting the full range of services and therefore opportunity to rotate and work in a number of areas within Cellular Pathology. Applicants are expected to have excellent technical knowledge and experience in histological techniques and preferably a Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology.
