Process and Process Safety Engineering – Summer Internship 2025 (Aberdeen)
Location: Aberdeen
Type: Intern
Description:
About the Internship
Join bp for an 11-week summer internship where you’ll take on meaningful, hands-on projects that you’ll see through from start to finish. You’ll work with one dedicated team, gaining guidance from a line manager and a buddy from bp’s early careers programme. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll enjoy social events with fellow interns, participate in training sessions to develop interpersonal skills, and network with leaders across bp. This structured programme will grow your technical expertise and give you an authentic look into life at bp.
Role and Responsibilities
Process and Process Safety Engineering (P&PSE) plays a crucial role in addressing one of the energy industry’s biggest challenges: how to meet the growing demand for energy while reducing carbon emissions. P&PSE supports oil and gas production, processing, and conversion to create essential fuels and chemicals, and drives bp’s energy transition initiatives in areas like hydrogen, carbon capture, and green fuels.
P&PSE engineers work across the lifecycle of major energy projects—from concept development and optimisation to design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations. They’re also central to innovating the safe, sustainable solutions that will drive bp’s future success, all while managing process safety risks in our operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
While your specific responsibilities will depend on bp’s needs and your skills, your role will include:
- Applying Chemical Engineering Skills: Using your expertise to solve real-world challenges in technology development, major projects, or operational settings.
- Championing Safety: Prioritising the safety of bp’s facilities, developing the skills to seek out inherently safer engineering solutions.
- Risk Identification and Mitigation: Recognising potential risks in your work and actively finding ways to mitigate them.
- Environmental Awareness: Seeking ways to reduce the environmental impact of the facilities you work on.
- Building Relationships: Networking and collaborating within bp and with external partners to deliver solutions effectively.
