What you can expect

Expect a dynamic environment filled with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. Throughout the scheme, you’ll rotate across various teams, spending 4-6 months in each, including Programme Management Office (PMO), Project Management, Portfolio Management, and Change Management. This will provide you with valuable insights into how we manage change and offer a diverse experience across all teams. It will also help guide your decisions on the direction you’d like your career to take.

Within your change delivery placement, you’ll own specific pieces of delivery, handling everything from scope and planning to stakeholder communication and problem-solving. With a focus on hands-on experience, you’ll be supported in obtaining a change management qualification while enjoying exposure to senior leaders and strategic conversations. Within change management, you’ll see yourself preparing, assessing, and executing the successful implementation of change.

Through delivering change across the business, you have the potential for wider learning opportunities with other departments across the business to further your experience and knowledge of NFU Mutual. Your future

Throughout the scheme, you’ll strengthen your core project management skills, earn recognised change and project management qualifications / apprenticeship, and develop essential competencies to set you up for a successful career. You’ll be fully supported along the way, with a dedicated buddy and mentor, as well as a designated Senior Group Change colleague. You’ll also have a strong network of current and former graduates alongside access to mentors and coaches across the business. As you near the end of the scheme, a careers coach will be there to guide you in planning your next steps.

It’s not just about work. We actively encourage our graduates to get involved in a range of extracurricular activities, from volunteering and organising charity or social events, to representing NFU Mutual at industry events – all aligned with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework. Plus, you’ll have the chance to unwind and network with colleagues by joining one of our many after-work sports teams and competitions, including football, cricket, tennis, darts, table tennis, and more.

Application process

If your application is shortlisted, you’ll be invited to complete an online assessment designed to measure your potential for success, such as your ability to learn and solve problems. The following stage is a short video interview, and the final stage will be an in-person assessment centre, where you’ll participate in a variety of activities, including a group exercise, a role-specific exercise, and a skills-based interview.

What were looking for

To join this scheme, you’ll need to have achieved, or be on track for, at least a 2:2 degree. Ideally this will be in a subject with a focus on business management, however we welcome candidates from any degree background, as what truly matters to us is your passion for learning, curiosity, and potential for growth. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where there’s a lot to juggle, and bring a positive, can-do attitude to everything you do, you’ll fit right in!

We’ll also be looking out for

  • Teamwork and collaboration skills – you’ll be working within project teams and the wider business to drive change
  • Initiative and proactivity – you’ll be taking the lead in identifying improvements and driving projects to success
  • Time management and organisational skills – you’ll be managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Innovation and creativity – you’ll develop creative solutions to complex challenges
  • Resilience and adaptability – you’ll need to handle the fast-paced nature of change management and adjust to evolving project needs 

If you’re able to bring these, we can teach you the rest, regardless of what subject you studied.

Work experience

If you’ve gained industry experience or completed a placement year that’s a big plus! But don’t worry if you haven’t, it’s not a must-have for the scheme. What we’re really looking for is some previous work experience where you’ve had the chance to interact with people and develop your communication skills.
