As the successful candidate, you will join an established and innovative team of advisors and consultants, delivering an exciting portfolio of work in the public and private sectors. In this role you will support the development of technical solutions and energy strategies to help the Buildings and Infrastructure sector meet governmental and local ‘net zero carbon’ targets, focusing on both heat and power. You will carry out energy audits of a range of sites in the public and private sector, identifying opportunities for improvement and quantifying capital costs and savings, including opportunities for low to net zero heat and power solutions (i.e. heat networks, localised renewable technologies and hydrogen futures).

You will support with developing energy reports for clients, clearly and concisely summarising findings of energy audits and site surveys. You will also work to understand and communicating ‘net zero carbon’ policies to clients, in support of them setting their own ‘net zero carbon’ aspirations and developing action plans to meet defined outcomes.

The kinds of projects we will get you involved in include:

  • Developing technical solutions and strategies to help the Buildings and Infrastructure sector meet governmental and local ‘net zero carbon’ targets, both embodied and operational carbon.
  • Carrying out operational and embodied carbon assessment for a range of new and existing building projects.
  • Feasibility studies for low to zero carbon technologies including heat pumps, heat networks and solar PV for public and private sector clients, and diverse building types.
  • Offering technical advisory services for clients across Energy performance contracting.
  • Assessing Sustainability accreditation schemes for the built environment (e.g. BREEAM).
  • Supporting clients with setting their own ‘net zero carbon’ aspirations and developing action plans to meet defined outcomes.
  • Providing technical analysis and reporting on carbon reduction through carbon assessment and whole life carbon opportunities within the built estates of our clients.
  • Lifecycle assessment, including sourcing, manufacturing, and installation of materials and components of the built environment, to calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and reduce these.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months relevant experience (excluding placements) and have a degree (obtained no earlier than 2023) or are expected to achieve one an engineering subject or a subject relevant to Net Zero/Climate Change/Sustainability.

In your application you should be able to demonstrate your interest in the role and working at Mott MacDonald through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience.
