Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Work as an effective member of the engineering design team by communicating well with colleagues from different backgrounds and levels
- Have an aptitude and understanding for following proper processes and procedures, whilst working expediently to achieve on time delivery and waste reduction targets
- Analyse client data in order to generate designs and quotations with direct supervision
- Learn how to create project/job documentation for engineering handover to manufacturing
- Work with cross-discipline teams to learn how to provide engineering support
- Attend technical clarifications with internal and external customers
- Perform simulations on existing designs to support services
- Use lean tools in day to day activities

What you’ll learn
Course contents
- Foundation Stage: Complying with statutory regulations and stringent organisational safety requirements
- Foundation Stage: Producing components using hand fitting, fabrication and joining techniques
- Foundation Stage: Producing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models (drawings) using a CAD system
- Foundation Stage: Preparing and using lathes, milling and other general or specialist machines and high tech equipment
- Foundation Stage: Preparing and proving Computer Numeric Control programmes
- Foundation Stage: Using computer software packages to assist with and evaluate engineering activities
- Foundation Stage: Producing and managing engineering project plans
- Foundation Stage: Producing assemblies using a wide range of materials and techniques
- Development Team: Project management and scheduling engineering activities
- Development Team: Securing appropriate resources and managing budgets and resources
- Development Team: Implementing, monitoring and evaluating engineering processes

Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
English, Maths and Science (grade 4 or above)
A Level or equivalent in:
relevant subject (grade C)
