LVGI have a new opportunity for a Graduate Data Scientist at one of our offices in London (Gracechurch Street), Bristol (University) & Bournemouth (Frizzell House).

About us

We build out fully operational machine learning products to solve the problems at the core of our business. You will be involved in all aspects of these machine learning projects, from liaising with business subject matter experts, to model building, evaluation, and deployment. You will also be involved in the development of new and innovative tools and techniques for use across the team through internal packages, innovation projects and university research partnerships.

The team structure is composed of smaller, focused stream-aligned agile teams. Each team works with different business areas and subject matter experts to achieve a mutual understanding of the business, challenges, and their needs. These stream-aligned teams are slowly rotated throughout the year to enable strong relationships with business areas, whilst giving our team the opportunity to develop through exposure of new data challenges and domain-knowledge problems.

Your focus

  • Develop machine learning solutions to address complex business challenges, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Support with the deployment of solutions into production environments, continuously monitoring and maintaining models to ensure robust performance and reliability.
  • Understand and apply best practices within the team, including coding standards, version control and documentation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science. Support innovation by contributing to new ideas, tools and methodologies to solve business problems.
  • Communicate data science concepts and insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders clearly and actionably.
  • Adhere to governance processes and ethical frameworks for all analytics solutions developed, driving good outcomes for customers.

Essential skills:

  • A degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline, or qualified by experience.
  • Good command of Python and use of pertinent libraries for data analysis and machine learning.
  • An understanding of predictive modelling techniques used for classification and regression problems.
  • Ability to present data science topics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with data manipulation, cleaning and preparing datasets for analysis.
  • Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to contribute to a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Committed to continual improvement in your technical skills over the lifetime of your career.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience building tree-based ensemble models.
  • Knowledge of code version control practices.
  • Knowledge of API frameworks or cloud environments (such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud)
