Apprenticeships at Jisc are hybrid and flexible. You’ll work from home often but you’ll need to be within commutable distance to one of their hubs in Bristol, Harwell, London or Manchester for occasional face-to-face working.

Purchasing (also called Procurement) is the buying of goodsand services that enable an organisation to operate. It includes marketanalysis, sourcing, negotiation, contracting and supplier relationshipmanagement. As we are publicly funded and have charity status, it is veryimportant for us at Jisc that we make sure we get the best value for moneyworking in a sustainable way.

What you’ll do on the programme

The apprenticewill work across purchasing/procurement, supplier management and operationsfunctions during their time at Jisc. This role is an introduction toprocurement and supplier management, working with a friendly and diverse teamto develop your professional skills and knowledge. You will develop practical skills within theworkplace in addition to undertaking a professional qualification with theChartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). By the end of the apprenticeship you willhave gained knowledge and experience of all aspects of the procurement andsupplier management lifecycle as well as data analysis, project management,communications, and other professional skills.

Main duties of the role include:

  • Gain a full understanding of the procurement and supplier management life cycle in Jisc to promote best practice and compliance across the organisation.
  • Understand Jisc procurement and supplier management policies and procedures, and support colleagues to follow them.
  • Contribute to the development of internal standards and procedures to ensure Jisc adheres to the necessary regulations whilst enabling efficiency.
  • Work with colleagues across the entire procurement and supplier management lifecycle to develop professional relationships.
  • Work with colleagues on innovative processes, investigating how procurement can adapt to different situations.
  • Supporting procurement processes, including market research, tender and specification drafting, evaluating suppliers and issuing contracts.
  • Develop contract and supplier relationship management,; assisting in supplier meetings, managing supplier performance, recording, analysing and presenting supplier data, assisting with changes to contracts and contract extensions.
  • Provide support in producing ad-hoc data analysis and reports for the procurement and supplier management functions where required.
  • Gain an excellent understanding of the electronic systems we use and how to use these to your advantage.
  • Attend relevant meetings and sector webinars to gain an excellent understanding of UK procurement regulations, and to be well informed of industry best practice around procurement, contract management, supplier management, and risk management.
  • Understand how external influences, such as changes in legislation can affect Jisc processes and the impact of these on the various aspects of the procurement lifecycle.
