Unlock your passions at Academy Vets

We are a busy, mixed practice in the Southwest of Scotland where the grass is green and the sun always shines. We are located in a quiet rural town surrounded by beautiful countryside and surrounded by the sea with outdoor activities such as paddle boarding, hill walking and cycling on our doorstep. We have a good public transport network and are close proximity to the ferries to Ireland.

Here at Academy Vets, no two days are the same with a fully mixed role doing everything from dairy fertility, small animal consulting and surgery to health planning, fertility testing and horses. We provide the perfect environment for a new graduate to put all their years of studying into practice. We have all the facilities you would expect. Small and large animal ultrasound, bull and tup fertility kit, digital radiography and full Idexx suite.

We have a supportive and friendly team which include 8.5 FTE Vets, 3 RVNs and 3 nursing auxiliaries. Within our team, we have a Cert AVP (cattle).

Step into a supportive start

Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday between 08:30-18:00. You may also be required to participate in a Saturday rota and an out of hours on-call rota which will include working on weekends and bank holidays. With 2 Vets always on call, there is always back up and support on hand. The rota leaves plenty of opportunity to enjoy the benefits of living in this beautiful part of the world.

We pride ourselves in the support we offer our new grads. Just ask some of our existing team members and I’m sure they will give us a glowing report! It is the perfect environment for your first job, and you will gain valuable experience in all fields. Over time we let our new grads choose their own path and give them the opportunity to specialise in a specific area should they wish to do so.

Caseload split of 60% Small Animal, 38% Farm and 2% Equine. Company vehicle provided for business purposes and personal use.
