Trainee Chartered Accountant 2024

Type: Trainee
Region: Scotland

We are a long-established independent firm of chartered accountants and registered auditors with offices in Glasgow city centre & Prestwick. We aim to provide the full range of accountancy and tax skills most small and medium sized businesses need, whilst retaining the personal touch to ensure that a strong professional relationship is maintained.

Our client base is built around working with small and medium sized businesses to assist them with their bookkeeping (including Xero & Sage software), management and year end accounts preparation along with appropriate personal and corporate tax advice. We are also payroll providers and can assist clients with HM Revenue & Customs investigations and enquiries.

Consequently, we provide a range of services to organisations in several different sectors and this variety helps to ensure our trainees can learn something new with every assignment. As the CA trainee progresses during the training contract to a more senior level, they will be given increasing degrees of responsibility in line with their development.

The role

We are looking for a graduate to join our team as part of our three-year CA training programme commencing in August 2024. Candidates should have a good understanding of the CA training programme, with a strong academic record, an attention to detail and good interpersonal skills.

About you

Eligible candidates will have obtained (or be on track to achieve) a 2:1 degree or above in an ICAS-accredited accountancy degree, with appropriate exemptions from first level CA qualification study [i.e. Knowledge (formerly TPC) courses & exams]. The candidate should also have a minimum of 4 (A or B level) at Scottish Higher grade (or equivalent) which must include English and Mathematics.

What we offer

As part of the CA training programme, graduates attend several ICAS block release classes as they study towards each of the different levels of the CA qualification. We support our trainees during this process including time off to attend classes, paid study leave and other assistance as required.

In addition, they are allocated a mentor, who offers guidance and support throughout the training contract. These mentors are newly qualified CAs who understand exactly what it is like to undertake a CA training contract. Our trainees are also in regular contact with our Training Principal to discuss their experience to date, any work or exam issues and to participate in presentations on relevant technical issues.

In your role, you’ll work flexibly across your location region, both at our offices and at engagement sites. Some travel will be required for work and because audit is seasonal, you can expect a greater workload at the busiest times of the year.

The successful candidate with be rewarded with a commensurate salary, pension package and four weeks holidays per annum (plus statutory days). We also cover the costs of the ICAS training contract (class, registration, exemption & book fees, along with exam fees for the first attempt).
