Equine Groom L2l3-national Hunt Racing Yard

Racing Staff required at Fergal O’Brien Racing. Applicants must be competent and confident carrying out all daily racing yard tasks and activities.

Preference would be given to a candidate that has previous riding out experience. But main priority is that you are a confident and capable rider.

Main duties will include:-

Caring for top class horses

The opportunity to go

racing if desired.

Learning about how to train

race horses


Mucking out

Good pool money as per the pool money agreement

The apprenticeship provides a solid

introduction to the racing industry, . All training and learning will take

place on site, within your paid working hours, therefore not lots of time sitting in a classroom.

If you didn’t achieve your English and Maths

grades at school we will support you to gain these whilst on programme.

The interview will consists of a trial day at

the yard working with the horses. Due to the nature of the horses you will need

to be confident in handling horses. This is a race yard therefore early

mornings are a must.

You must be a UK resident or have lived in the

EU for 3 years or more to apply for this role.

Working hours are done on a rota basis-Monday – Saturday (am) and 1 in 3 weekends

6.00 – 11.30 then 15.30 – 17.00


All training will be provided on

site during your paid working hours.

Your day to day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination

of online and in person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training

Trainer Coach.

Qualifications required

A GCSE or equivalent pass in English

and maths is beneficial but not essential.

If you do not have passes, we will support you in achieving your

Functional Skills English and maths qualifications alongside your apprenticeship.
