About the Internship
Spend 11 weeks this summer working with bp on impactful projects that you’ll take from start to finish. As a Geology intern, you’ll work closely with one team, gaining hands-on experience while receiving support from a dedicated line manager and a buddy from bp’s early careers network. You’ll also have the chance to attend social events, network with other interns, and participate in training sessions that develop both your technical and interpersonal skills. This internship is crafted to help you build your expertise while exploring what life at bp has to offer.
Role and Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll join bp’s Geology team, contributing to the application of geological principles to assess the subsurface, manage risk, and analyse large volumes of technical data for strategic decision-making. Our geologists play a pivotal role in bp’s energy transition, working with cutting-edge technology to explore hydrocarbon resources and advance bp’s shift towards lower-carbon energy solutions, including hydrogen, geothermal, renewables, carbon capture and storage (CCUS), and bioenergy.
You’ll receive continuous feedback and guidance to help plan and deliver your project, as well as advice on engaging with other teams to broaden your understanding of bp’s diverse operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a bp Geology intern, you’ll work on meaningful projects that allow you to make a real impact. You’ll be responsible for:
- Project Collaboration: Supporting your team to develop and deliver optimal solutions for bp’s objectives.
- Performance and Teamwork: Contributing to bp’s success by maintaining performance standards and building effective relationships with team members and external partners.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engaging with various teams, segments, and disciplines within bp to deliver results and enhance your understanding of bp’s business.
- Commitment to Safety and bp’s Values: Demonstrating bp’s values and commitment to safety and integrity throughout your internship.

Ideal Candidates
We’re particularly interested in students working towards an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience, as well as PhD candidates specialising in applied geology fields, including sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, biostratigraphy, geochemistry, basin modelling, and geomechanics. Strong data science skills are a plus; candidates with experience in statistical analysis, data interrogation, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, as well as tools like Jupyter and RStudio, will find these skills valuable in bp’s geoscience environment.

Requirements
To be eligible for this role you will need a degree in geology, earth science, natural sciences, environmental science, maths, and physics and
Must be in penultimate year of study (those going onto a Master’s and PhD students can apply)
We would like to allow those who are penultimate year from starting work to apply so this would include those who are approaching their final year and taking a year out immediately after that final year traveling.
Completing a PhD and have 9-18 months remaining until your PhD completion date
You are also expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.

Start & End Dates
23rd June to 5th September 2025

Reward
Salary: £35,200 p.a. (prorated for the duration of your internship)
