The Insurance Solutions Team is a specialist industry team within the Sales Department of MSIM. We are both a strategic and technical team, focussed almost exclusively on institutional insurance clients, but occasionally supporting business relating to pension and banks.

Insurance client investment management is a complex area driven variously by market dynamics, and regulation and accounting considerations. Insurance clients are of the largest investors with clients having assets under management generally in the region of 1-500bn. Insurers invest predominantly in fixed income, and also in private markets and alternatives. This is a highly regulated industry and insurers must allocate assets carefully and in accordance with Risk Based Capital rules. We guide clients and the firm alike, to ensure delivery of the right MSIM capabilities to each specific client. To do this, we can support clients with strategic asset allocation (SAA) studies, and we will assess MSIM’s investment strategies according to respective Risk Based Capital frameworks (Solvency II in Europe, J-ICS in Japan, NAIC in the US, etc) to determine suitability within a client’s SAA.

With respect to the team being both strategic and technical, we are tasked with driving opportunity for MSIM with insurance clients, but also understanding in great depth, the mechanics of insurers and the regulatory regimes they are subject to anywhere in the world. Our day to day activity finds us seeking new ideas and trends, liaising with country Sales teams around the world (with a primary focus on EMEA and APAC but also working with the US team from time to time), as well as having daily and close contact with investment teams and clients.

The Off-Cycle Internship is an opportunity to experience the culture and atmosphere in the Investment Management Division by taking on some of the responsibilities and functions of a Full-time Analyst for a short period.
