Our Theatre and Anaesthetics Department are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our Broomfield Hospital team on a permanent full-time basis.

You will work collaboratively with your fellow Consultants to provide a modern and comprehensive Anaesthetic service to our patients. Interests in sub-specialities such as Paediatrics, Pain and Peri-operative Medicine are welcome.

Broomfield Hospital is the regional centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery and this post includes duties to the 6-bedded Burns Intensive Care Unit and to Burns Theatre. You will join a team of 10.5 WTE Consultants providing on call services to Burns and Plastics.

If successful, some of your duties will include:

• Provision, with consultant colleagues, of a modern and comprehensive Anaesthetic, Intensive Care, Pain Medicine and Perioperative Medicine service to Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust. Successful applicants will be expected to integrate within and support all the current activities of the department.

• Clinical duties in Burns Intensive Care and Burns Theatre, for one clinical day per week, alternating weekly. Participation in the Burns Anaesthetic Consultant On Call Rota and provision of out-of-hours care where appropriate.

• Professional supervision, teaching, and management of resident medical staff, including trainee anaesthetists undertaking modular training in burns.

• Participation in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.

• Participation in medical Audit and the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes. There is a monthly departmental directorate meeting on Audit Days that consultants are expected to attend.

• Appraisal, revalidation, job plan reviews and mandatory training updates are compulsory on an annual basis.
