Applicants are invited to join our Highways team to help maintain the streets and footpaths of Darlington. The work will involve learning all aspects of highway works including paving, kerbing, tarmac, concrete and drainage on maintenance and major scheme works. No previous knowledge is required as full training will be provided. However, you must be committed to working towards and obtaining NVQ Level 2 in Highways Construction. The Trainee Highways Operative  is paid on a Craft Apprentice Rate and is dependent on age. The rate of pay will also increase with each year of study. Below are the current rates of pay.

  • Year 1 £15,867.50 to £24,522.50 per annum.
  • Year 2 £20,195 to £25,965 per annum.
