We are hiring Placement Students to join our Infrastructures team on a 12-month sandwich placement contract in We are looking for ambitious Graduates to join our growing Infrastructure teams in Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Kent (West Malling) and Winchester.

Our society is changing, as can be seen in news reports every day. Housing shortages, changing high streets water shortages, climate change, biodiversity, energy supplies, renewable energy and the switch to electric cars from 2035 are all issues that our society is facing today. As well as impacting towns and cities, our focus within the infrastructures team is how the countryside needs to adapt to these changes, and you could be part of building the world we want to live in.
The team
Our infrastructure team is the fastest growing of its kind in the country, now with 180 people in seven offices around the UK, working with major clients including Network Rail, HS2, National Highways, National Grid, Homes England and the Crown Estate.
Operating in both rural and urban environments, our Infrastructure graduates are directly involved in delivering the world we need for the 21st Century and beyond. We cover an array of services to clients within the following sectors:
- Energy
- Minerals & Waste
- Regeneration
- Telecommunications
- Utilities
- Transport
- Geospatial / GIS
- Property / Asset management
What will it take to be successful?
Candidates applying will have an understanding of the infrastructure property sector and will be completing a relevant RICS accredited degree in land management. Candidates with relevant work experience within the surveying industry who can demonstrate a basic understanding of rural valuation and the principles of compulsory purchase are favoured. However, we are also looking for candidates with a can-do attitude and strong communication skills who are driven and enjoy problem solving who will be an asset to our team. Candidates will be highly motivated problem solvers who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment as part of a team.
Candidates will have good inter-personal skills and will be competent with both Microsoft excel and word applications.

We offer a supportive team environment and the opportunity to develop your knowledge of all aspects of infrastructure surveying in our offices. Independence and individual responsibility will develop as candidates gain experience throughout the 12-month placement year.
Carter Jonas runs an internal APC training program available to all placement students and graduates. As part of this program placement students will be included in various away days learning about the APC process is and how to be successful, as well as having the help and support of the wider firm to include those who have recently sat their APC and feedback and workshops provided by APC Assessors working at Carter Jonas.
In addition to the APC Program, Carter Jonas also runs an Infrastructure Academy for all new starters in the infrastructure team. This includes various training events set over a 3-month period on the various processes and legislation utilised to facilitate infrastructure. These events are run by experts in the respective area and includes topics such as valuation, tenancies, statutory blight schemes, wayleaves and easements.
You will be provided with regular one to ones and feedback on your development and input into the team. With clear objectives you will truly be able to add value to our team while enjoying real exposure to our expertise.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience to become an Infrastructure Surveyor, which is someone who combines the skillsets of surveying with the fast-paced world of infrastructures, you will develop skills and a working knowledge of technology used on infrastructure projects as well as an understanding of dispute resolution, mediation and business skills.

Application process
You will be asked to respond to a number of questions about your work experience as well as your motivations and interest in a career in property as well as any extracurricular activities. We ask you to provide reference contact details, one educational and one employment. If successful, you will be invited to attend one of our graduate assessment centres between December and February.
