This position is full time and on-site only.

About C-Tech:

C-Tech is unique, we’re solving automation challenges in the chilled food manufacturing sector by designing and developing novel, simple systems that aim to reduce the sector’s reliance on manual labour.

Working in one of the fastest moving, complex and dynamic environments, the chilled food sector is an exciting and remarkably difficult challenge. But, we’re different again, unlike other small businesses we’re part of the Seafresh Group, so our biggest client is also part of our ownership structure. This means that we’re essentially an on-site R&D facility with free and open access to a chilled food manufacturer, Blue Earth Foods, who are a top-tier supplier to market-leader Marks and Spencer.

We’re an equal opportunity employer, and we’re keen to change the face of Engineering especially in the Food sector, if you’re interested in food, interested in Mechanical Engineering and want freedom to work and be in control of your destiny then C-Tech is the place to be!

About the role:

Novel start-up C-Tech Automation is seeking to expand their Mechanical design and development capability, with a Graduate Mechanical Engineer with interests and competencies in CAD (Fusion 360), 3D printing, machining, as well as an interest in expanding to more mechatronic based systems – oh and food!

We’d like you to join our rapidly expanding team to support our current and future equipment designs from simple line-side systems through to our upcoming packing automation project ‘Enterprise’.

Technical approach:

We’ve spent the last two years developing our mechatronic capability using our own prototyping ability and workshop, we’re currently designing our own low-cost conveyor as well as a novel handling solution to wholly automate the packing and labelling side of the Blue Earth business.

Using Fusion360 we collaboratively develop our solutions and using CNC and 3D printing extensions we go direct to our equipment. We also make use of folded metal and welding. We want to expand to have our own laser cutting, SLS printing and folding systems ideally, you’ll be part of that journey.

What you get:

You’ll get all the experience and exposure you can handle! You’ll be responsible for your own designs right from the get-go. Working within the design team we’d like you to learn how we go about development, make use of our array of Bambu 3D printers, our CNC equipment and well setup workshop to make the prototype and final systems you design.

Your development:

Your development is key, you’ll get exposure to everything, led by a Chartered Engineer (IET), C-Tech has experience in the professional registration process and can support your professional development from Incorporated through to Chartered Engineer for the IET and IMechE.

Key responsibilities:

1.

Project Engineering – Mechanical Design

Supporting our lead Mechanical Design Engineer you will work alongside them on our current equipment solutions ranging from simple inline production systems through to our flagship Enterprise system.

We’d like you to start small and gain your confidence, so we have a series of small industrial systems that we have developed ourselves and we’d like you to work through those, understanding, developing, and building them.

To make sure you stay grounded we’ll have you building some of the hardware too as it’s essential you get familiar with this as well as the sensors, sensing systems, smart devices as well as the more mundane issues of fastening, piping etc.

We’d like you to work on pneumatic systems, we have a series of these that are already in operation, some wholly pneumatic, others of a hybrid design and we champion this approach as they’re simple, robust and easy for the other Engineering teams to support and maintain.

2.

Project Engineering – Line Side Solutions

We’d like you to develop yourself to understand our existing equipment and improve them based on the feedback from our client using any equipment available.

We’d like you to work on some of our other smaller projects that will allow you to achieve some small successes to build your confidence as well as experience in developing solutions for the challenging production environments such as ‘High Care’ and ‘High Risk’.

3.

Technical Compliance

Design in a structured and organised manner making use of Fusion 360 folders, fasteners, revision history as well as supplier CAD models.

Release engineering drawings for system assembly, DXF for laser cutting, folding diagrams, CNC fabrication drawings as well as 3rd angle projection all to be held within Fusion and our own software systems.

Learn about and apply safe systems of design to ensure our mechanical systems are fail-safe and have safety and ease of use at their core.

Understand and apply hygienic design approaches, equipment, and rules to our systems that are deployed into a direct food-contact or wash-down environment.

Support in achieving UKCA certification for the equipment.

4.

Sales Support

Maintain project files and folders using MS Teams to include up-to-date hardware

Work with the C-Tech team to ensure that the office and workshop is professional while maintaining a productive and exciting atmosphere.
