Our Engineering Sciences team is growing rapidly, and we are delighted to be seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of building physics specialists in our division. The team is all about applying the principles of physics to deliver masterplans, buildings and public realms that feel good, are resilient to climate change, operate efficiently and are kind to the environment. Our specialist team has a track record of collaborating closely with stakeholders and design teams to deliver a wide variety of projects, both in terms of types and scale, from the iconic Royal College of Art Battersea South building, to devising net zero carbon strategies for the NHS and supporting Cities, Regional and National governments on the pathway to net zero carbon within the built environment.
The role will be based in our Buildings business unit, with offices located in Bristol, Brighton and London (Central London and Croydon). The role will also offer hybrid office/home working.
The role will be providing design and strategic advice to clients and will involve:
- Carrying out thermal modelling of buildings at different scales to determine thermal comfort, visual comfort, energy performance, climate resilience, carbon assessments etc to guide and assist the design team in implementing the most appropriate design solutions
- Supporting qualitative assessments to provide early-stage design advice to the design team and stakeholder, supported by a thorough understanding of building physics behaviour of buildings
- Developing parametric modelling studies to guide low carbon design decisions at a building, campus or masterplan scale
- Computational fluid dynamics modelling to understand wind flow around buildings and cities
- Urban heat island modelling and adaptation of cities to future heatwaves
- Assisting senior teammates in delivering projects

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months relevant experience and have a degree or are expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:
- Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Design, Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Physics or Applied Mathematics
- Master’s Degree in Building Physics related subjects such as Environmental Design Engineering, Modern Building Design, Sustainable Building design, Applied Aerodynamics, or a similar subject
We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:
- Methodical approach to problem solving
- Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
- Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail
Desired skills (any combination of the following):
- Experience using dynamic thermal modelling software such as EDSL TAS, Design Builder or IES VE, EnergyPlus, jEPlus or similar
- Experience using CFD modelling tools such as OpenFOAM, Ansys or similar
- Experience using climate modelling tools such as Grasshopper
- Python, C or other coding skills
