The role

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer, you’ll work as part of the renewables team, undertaking renewable energy plant audits throughout the United Kingdom.

This is a permanent opportunity with immediate starts available. You’ll be based in our Glasgow city centre office, with the option to work from home 2 day per week. Regular travel to sites is required, so please note you must be able to drive for this role.

Key responsibilities

  • Work effectively on several renewable energy audits concurrently.
  • Undertake engineering and economics analysis of renewable energy projects.
  • Undertake witnessing / inspection of mechanical and electrical commissioning of renewable energy projects.
  • Participate in site visits and client meetings.
  • Liaise with external organisations.
  • Progress to undertake feasibility studies, design, specification and implementation of renewable energy projects.
  • Progress to provide grid connection and compliance support for renewable energy projects.
  • Assist with various marketing and tender initiatives.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • You should be a recent graduate (within maximum of 2 years)
  • You must have the legal right to work in the UK
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Ability to drive to remote project sites and rent a vehicle for business travel is essential. Successful applicants will be required to present their original driving licence prior to commencing work.

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred qualifications

Knowledge areas

  • Key renewables energy technologies such as; power plant, wind, solar, and battery energy storage.
  • Power generation, transmission and distribution networks.
  • Typical electrical power system studies (Load Flow, Short Circuit, Losses.).
  • Electrical infrastructure and plant specification and arrangement for renewable energy projects.
  • Main electrical equipment / cable sizing calculations.
  • Additionally, it would be beneficial to have some knowledge of: power system analysis software such as DigSilent, PSCAD or ETAP; Grid connection and TSO/DNO interfaces; Feed in Tariff (FIT) and Renewables Obligation (RO); UK Grid Code.

Skills

  • Technical analysis
  • Ability to effectively communicate to different stakeholders.
  • Time management is key to this role so an ability to manage multiple tasks throughout your working week is paramount.
  • Highly numerate and well developed MS Excel skills (ideally including VBA, and Python).
  • Well-developed report writing skills, using MS Word.
