Better Dairy is building the future of food by producing molecularly identical dairy without using any animals.

This allows us to provide consumers with delicious, nutritious and versatile dairy products without harmful effects to the planet and animals. By utilizing a series of technologies, including precision fermentation, we are rebuilding dairy from the ground up. Our products melt, stretch, pour and pop with umami like their originals just without lactose, antibiotics and hormones.

The role

We are looking for a curious and dynamic New Product Development Intern to join our Food & Dairy Science team for an initial period of 4 months, with a potential for extension afterwards. In this role you will support a team which is responsible for the research, development and testing of various ingredients and flavour profiles in cheesemaking.

The successful candidate must be eager to learn and have a passion for food and sustainability.

Responsibilities

Formulation development

  • Collaborate with the food & dairy science team to develop and optimise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for various animal-free products
  • Conduct research on ingredient functionality and its impact on product characteristics

Sensory science

  • Prepare samples for sensory panel training and help coordinate training sessions
  • Analyse sensory data and contribute to the interpretation of results to improve product quality

Scale-up at pilot scale

  • Assist in designing and conducting pilot-scale trials for animal-free products
  • Provide support in data collection to the interpretation of results to improve product quality

Research and documentation

  • Contribute to research projects related to dairy product formulation, process optimisation, and sensory analysis
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation of experimental procedures and results

Skills and experience

  • A background in Chemistry or Food Science (with a Bachelors or Masters degree)
  • Practical experience in a food lab setting (e.g. experience with analytical equipment, several raw materials and ingredients) is highly advantageous but not essential
  • A curious yet methodical mind with the ability to follow complex instructions effectively and with a high attention to detail
  • An eagerness to learn and get stuck in at all levels with no job too big or too little
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • A passion for all things food as well as sustainability
